Take a look at the Melitta Express Kettle. It shuts off soon after it reaches the boiling point. Has a tip type of lid which latches to prevent burns but is easily opened. Since Ive never owned an electric teakettle before, I cant say that this is the definitive best. If you own one of those kettles that you put on the stove, this one beats it no contest. There is no more guessing if your water reached the boiling point, because it turns off when the water reaches 100
