Toshiba SD-P2000 Portable DVD Player
Toshibas ultra-portable SD-P2000 DVD-Video/DVD-Audio player is designed to deliver "no compromise" video and audio performance. The companys first DVD-Audio-equipped portable is distinguished by an 8.9-inch PolySilicon widescreen display whose high-resolution image (1,024-x-600 pixel) is more than five times as dense as that of its closest competitor. The TFT (thin-film-transistor) active-matrix display delivers filmlike images rich in detail, color resolution, and contrast. The player also offers multiformat versatility, including DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, DVD-R, audio CD, Video CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3 CD playback. The unit offers ColorStream PRO progressive-scan component video outputs (for use with HD-ready and HDTVs) and is further distinguished by an advanced 10-bit, 54 MHz video digital-to-analog converter. Surface-mounted keypads grant "remote-free" operation of all essential functions, while a sleek, credit-card-size remote control performs advanced operations.

Leading-edge 24-bit/192 kHz digital-analog converters from Analog Devices delivers exceptional two-channel DVD-Audio frequency response and dynamic range. DVD-Audio discs deliver high-resolution audio, capturing and reproducing all of the nuances of the original performance and offering high-resolution surround sound as well as stereo. Two built-in headphone jacks let you watch or listen with a partner. Dialogue Expansion improves intelligibility of a discs center-channel frequencies, while Spatializer N-2-2 Virtual Surround Sound simulates surround sound through two speakers or headphones. Built-in stereo speakers grant headphone-free listening.

The supplied lithium ion battery blends seamlessly with the players cosmetic profile and offers more than three hours of uninterrupted movie or music entertainment. (An optional extended-life battery adds five hours of viewing time.) During compact disc and DVD-Audio playback, the SD-P2000s LCD panel can be turned off, extending battery life even further.

The SD-P2000 connects to nearly any display, from standard TVs to flat-panel and projection sets. Video Black Level Expansion ensures optimal contrast and gray scale reproduction, and PLUGE helps properly calibrate the brightness levels of any connected monitor. The SD-P2000 passes both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals through its digital-audio outputs (one each coaxial and optical) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. Audio and video mini-plug outputs and standard S-video connectors improve the SD-P2000s flexibility.

Review for Toshiba SD-P2000 Portable DVD Player

Ditto, this is the one to have. ( User Rating : 50 /50 )
Prior to our purchase of the SD-P2000 I did quite a bit of study on the other units available and decided on the Toshiba for various techno-features, top of the list being the quality of the screen. I could carry on with techno-babble but well leave that for others.

Semi-short and to the point, mo

Great Picture, Big Battery ( User Rating : 40 /50 )
I bought this portable after finally breaking my little Panasonic Portable L50 I had since 1999. I had dropped it about 15 times and the screen finally broke. I had come to Amazon to buy the big Panasonic but started reading about the Toshiba and decided to buy it.

The picture is FANTASTIC. The so

Great Picture. Poor Sound ( User Rating : 40 /50 )
I bought this player for long trips in the car. Player has a great picture and plenty of features. The only drawback is you almost have to use headphones unless you are in an extremely quiet room. Ive noticed other portable dvd players have the same problem so I dont think its that big of a deal. I

So Far, So Good!! ( User Rating : 40/50 )
I purcahsed the Toshiba SD-V391, knowing that it has a high rate of mechanical problems. However, if you read the reviews for other manufacturers DVD/VCR combos in this price range, you will find similar complaints about the unit malfunctioning. Perhaps this happens with less frequency if you purcha..

for $ 69.99

Great DVD Player with minor flaws ( User Rating : 50/50 )
I recently purchased the Philips DVP642 DVD player and I am quite pleased with it. I have a lot of files in .avi format, and it takes me several hours to encode them in DVD, SVCD, or VCD format to play on a DVD player. Now, with this player, I can just put my .avi files onto CD-Rs, pop them in the D..
