Planes, Trains and Automobiles
Given the presence of both Steve Martin and John Candy, one would expect this John Hughes comedy to be much, much funnier than it is. Certainly its not for lack of effort on the part of its stars. Martin is an uptight businessman trying to get home from New York for the holidays. But one thing after another gets in his way--most of it having to do with Candy, a boorish but well-meaning boob who takes a liking to him. Together they travel all over the map; no matter how hard Martin tries to shake him, he cant. But Hughess writing is never as sharp as it should be and this film winds up being only intermittently humorous. --Marshall Fine

Good, But Drags and Over-Stretches At Times 3.5 Stars ( User Rating : 30 /50 )
Steve Martin plays an uptight, irritable businessman trying to make it home for Thanksgiving with his family. Candy and Martin at their best ( User Rating : 50 /50 )
I saw this film in the theater when it was initally released. This is by far and away one of my favorite films. John Candy sometimes played the "fat man" roles but in this movie his weight is not important. He plays a lovable warm well meaning character that by the end of the film you wish you had f

Porsche Through Rose Glasses ( User Rating : 20/50 )
If Id realized Mr. Ludvigsen had a past history of writing for Automotive Quarterly, I would never have wasted this much money buying this set. Just like Automotive Quarterly (which never had a bad thing to say about any automobile) Mr. Ludvigsen glosses over the problems with the 356 and early 911 ..

Good, but not the only book you need! ( User Rating : 30/50 )
Anyone who sets out to buy an old Volkswagen will hear this book mentioned again and again, usually with great reverence and a tremendous amount of enthusiasm. Well folks, it is simply not all that. Dont get me wrong -- Im happy I bought this book, and I refer to it often -- but like other reviewers..
